Country Billboard Chart News August 8, 2012

Rapper Rick Ross has claimed his fourth No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 as "God Forgives, I Don't" with sales of 218,492 debuts atop the Billboard Top 200 list according to Nielsen SoundScan. Ross has now collected more No. 1 albums than some rappers with longer histories on the Billboard 200: like Lil Wayne and Snoop Dogg, who both have three No. 1s. (Though, Ross is still far behind the man with the most No. 1s among all rap acts: Jay-Z, who has 12 toppers.) The first-week sales of "God Forgives, I Don't" were helped by Amazon MP3, which has priced the title for $5 for the entire month of August.

At No. 2 on the chart this week in the Billboard 200 and the #1 Country Album for the last 4 weeks is Zac Brown Band's UNCAGED. This week ZBB fans took home another 39,469 copies (a weekly sales dip of 18%). It has now sold 400,497 since its release in America.

New at #11 on The Top 200 and #2 on the Country chart are country trio Gloriana, who debut with their second album, A THOUSAND MILES LEFT BEHIND with first week sales of 22,869. They have been robbed of a Top 10 place due to the fact that Amazon MP3 opted to sale price the Bee Gees' "Number Ones". The then 4-piece group first top 10 came with its self-titled debut album, which bowed and peaked at No. 3 in 2009 off a 44,000 start. By entering the Top Country Albums at #2 it equals Gloriana's peak. "(Kissed You) Good Night" the trio's first top 10 hit on Hot Country Songs is contending for the #1 place. Last week they were at #2 this wek they drop to #3.

A THOUSAND MILES LEFT BEHIND has received critical praise for the growth the band displays on the 11 tracks, especially on their current single.  The trio is currently out on the road performing headlining shows across the country in support of the new album - “It’s so exciting for us to finally have this new album out and to watch the great response it has gotten is just incredible,” said Gloriana. “We are so grateful for the support and encouragement we have received from our fans and everyone in the country community.”

Tom, Mike, and Rachel have funneled everything they’ve learned into A THOUSAND MILES LEFT BEHIND intent on revealing more of themselves as artists. Gloriana worked with some of Nashville’s finest songwriters and had a hand in writing every track on the album. The trio worked with GRAMMY Award winning producer and Emblem Music Group label owner Matt Serletic (Willie Nelson, Matchbox 20, and Aerosmith). Source - www.gloriana.com/news

Carrie Underwood seems to be benefiting ’s from increased airplay from her new single /video with the title cut “Blown Away”. This week BLOWN AWAY sold 16,079 copies a weekly increase of 23%. Second week sales for Love and Theft’s self-titled album were 57% down (6,102 copies sold) as they drop from #4 to #11 on the Country chart and 41 places on the Top 200.

Fans of Joey + Rory may be disappointed with their lowly chart debut with their third album titled HIS and HERS. It has sold 3,971 copies (1008 of these being attributed to Digital sales) in its first week debutting at #112 on the Billboard 200 and a #24 showing on the Billboard Country Album chart.
The Duo comprised of husband and wife team, singer-songwriters, Rory Lee Feek and Joey Martin Feek claimed fame back in 2008 on CMT's competition Can You Duet signing with Sugar Hill/Vanguard Records that same year.
Blurb (SugarHill Records) : HIS AND HERS, more than any prior Joey+Rory release, gracefully and thoroughly underlines what Joey and Rory are together, as a singing team, as songwriters, as family, as country artists and fans.
While its predecessors offered polished, powerful examples of Joey’s vocal prowess, Rory felt that listeners still hadn’t experienced the full spectrum of his wife’s voice. HIS AND HERS producer/Grammy winner Gary Paczosa, Rory says, helped them bring listeners closer to the version of Joey’s voice that Rory knows best: the one that beams so distinctly and honestly in their home, in front of the kitchen hearth with their family.
As great as we thought and a lot of people thought our first two records were, I would not hesitate to say, ‘You still don't know how good she sings; you should really come set at our table and listen to her with just a guitar,’” Rory says. “But this record, I really, really feel like he took that kind of thing that feels really special and intimate, and he somehow captured it and made it even better. And that's a big deal.”

The album is attracting some controversy (Bible and the Belt) regarding song topics and may offend people of a liberal persuasion; therefore the jury is still out on whether the risk is going to pay off.
Some feel that the couple is acting more like two solo artists again rather than showcasing themselves as a much loved duo although their first two records essentially leaned towards featuring Joey’s stunning lead vocals, with Rory following up with harmonies. The attention garnered them an ACM Award for Top New Vocal Duo of the Year in 2010 and a CMA nomination.
Unfortunately country radio in America is unlikely in 2012 to embrace their music. The track list on HIS and HERS splits things down two ways, with Rory and Joey taking turns on the lead - Is this a career-advancing move, or a career-killing one?
Album of the year...no arguments. This IS country music” writes Alan Cackett the editor of UK publication Maverick Magazine in his 5 STAR review on Page 92. View it here:
