The Shires add Falmouth week festival to their summer dates after headlining the acoustic stage at Glastonbury festival on Saturday - Ben almost didn’t make the set as his fiancee was about to give birth to his son… he was born just in time for him to leave to get to Glastonbury - so everything worked out well in the end!

UK country duo The Shires will be making the soundtrack to your summer Country this year, performing at a series of high profile music festivals and events including the just announced, Falmouth Week Festival in Cornwall as well as Cornbury, Platform, Lakes, Bracknell, Lytham, Castle Roc, Cottingham and supporting Sir Tom Jones at Bedford Park.

During the last weekend of June the band made their headline debut at Glastonbury Festival - performing on the Acoustic Stage (Saturday 25 June 21:45-23:00) to an audience of thousands,
performing new songs from their soon to be announced second album, alongside tracks from their gold-selling (100K+ sales) debut album ‘Brave’.
The set however was thrown into doubt when Ben Earle thought he may have to cancel the performance, or risk missing the birth of his son!

Crissie Rhodes, talking to the Press Association stated
"His fiancée gave birth this morning, of all mornings! We were scared because we've got Glastonbury tonight and we were hoping the baby would come before or at least after and just not on Glastonbury. But this morning, baby River, a little boy, was born.” *
On 7 Sept 2015 Ben announced via social media that after a short 5-year courtship he was now engaged!

Earle - who said he has been up for 48 hours - took to Instagram to say it broke his heart to leave his fiancee on Saturday afternoon, but added he was "very excited to play Glastonbury", and that it was "going to be an emotional one."

The pair, that's Ben & Crissie, who became the first UK country act to make it into the Top 10 album charts, performed at Glastonbury last year but return for a headline slot.
Rhodes - who crashed out of the X Factor in the boot camp stage in 2013 when Nicole Scherzinger chose not to keep her - said: "They let me go at the right time because that's when I met Ben. "It felt like fate that everything fell into place at the same time, because then potentially I wouldn't be here headlining the Acoustic Stage at Glastonbury with Ben. It's all for the best," she added.

The Shires Summer 2016 Schedule

The live dates will follow an intense period of song writing for the Shires, who have been working on their new album in Music City: Nashville, with top country music producers and recording their album at Sound Stage Studios, one of the most prestigious recording studios in Nashville, which has cut records for other country superstars such as Carrie Underwood, Tim McGraw and Lady Antebellum.

The Shires stated: “We are very excited to be getting back on the road again. We toured so much of last year it felt like we needed a break by Christmas but since we've been in the studio, our thoughts have returned to the road. We can't wait to get back on that tour bus and play some of the new music we've been working on. The album is in full production now and we hope to have news on that soon - but we can definitely say it's on the way."

The first UK country act ever to have a top 10 album in their home country, The Shires have been at the forefront of the British Country music movement which has seen a sea change in the opinion of the British public, who have embraced the genre and UK bands making music inspired by US country artists. The Shires’ success has been unparalleled, with the band becoming one of the biggest breakthrough acts of 2015 (alongside the likes of James Bay and Years & Years), performing at Glastonbury Festival, the Grand Ole Opry and last year even saw their debut go Gold - a huge achievement for any British artist.
