Scotty recently picked up three RIAA Platinum certifications with his hit songs off his Mercury Nashville / 19 / Interscope Records No.1 debuting first studio album CLEAR AS DAY, and “See You Tonight,” the Top 10 lead single off his second consecutive No. 1 album, SEE YOU TONIGHT. Written by McCreery, Ashley Gorley and Zach Crowell, “See You Tonight” marks the first Platinum-selling single for McCreery as a writer in addition to being the artist, making it particularly special. “I Love You This Big,” written by Ronnie Jackson, Brett James, Ester Dean and Jay Smith, was McCreery’s country radio debut and first Top 15 single.  “The Trouble with Girls” was written by Phillip White and Chris Tompkins, and remains a huge crowd favorite on McCreery tour dates.
Since his 2011 debut, McCreery has sold more than 2 million albums. He continues to cross the country headlining his See You Tonight Tour through the end of the year, and McCreery’s latest single, “Feelin’ It,” is currently climbing country radio’s Top 15.

Billboard Top 200 / Country Album Chart News

Taylor Swift as expected with her blockbuster POP album “1989” (Big Machine/ Republic) spent a second week at No.1 on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart (BB200).
The set sold 401,599 copies in the week ending Nov. 9, according to Nielsen SoundScan down a moderate 69% compared to its 1,286,544 million bow.
The album's second-week haul is the second-biggest week for an album in 2014, following 1989's debut a week earlier. 1989 has sold 1,688,360 copies in its first two chart weeks.
Swift's last album, 2012's RED, fell by 72% in its sophomore frame (1.21 million to 344,000). The album before that, Speak Now, also started with more than a million (1.047 million) and slipped by 69.5 percent (to 320,000) in week two.
It seems the music industry mostly avoided releasing albums from A-list artists to compete with 1989's second week.
Swift’s lead off  single “Shake It Off” was No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100

Jason Aldean's former No.1 OLD BOOTS, NEW DIRT, rose 5-4 on the BB200 (2-1 Country) and returned to No.1 on the Billboard Country Album Chart with 35,227 copies sold (down just 17%). It's one of the albums in the top 10 that benefitted from exposure on the Country Music Association Awards (CMA Awards) on Nov. 5. Aldean performed the album's "Burnin' It Down" on the broadcast.

Florida Georgia Line's ANYTHING GOES was steady at No. 6 on the BB200 (3-2 Country) with 30,058 copies (down 21%),

Brantley Gilbert with JUST AS I AM zoomed 62-9 on the BB200 (13-3 Country) with 25,718 copies (up 306%). He was a presenter at the CMA’s but this boost was down to the album deeply discounted to 99-cents during the tracking week in the Google Play store.
Overall country album sales rose by 11% for the week (to 740,000) mostly to the CMA Awards exposure. Last year’s show pumped sales by 12% (to 735,000). In terms of digital country song volume, downloads rose 28% (to 2.4 million), compared with a 30% spike in 2013 (to 2.9 million).

Multiple CMA winner Miranda Lambert, with now CMA Album of the Year, PLATINUM (RCA Nashville/Sony Music Nashville) rocketed 87-15 on the BB200 and 21-6 Country (16,908 sales; up 271%). She has finally scanned GOLD at retail having now past the ½-million mark with 514,605 total sales in 23 chart weeks.
Hubby Blake Shelton with BRINGING BACK THE SUNSHINE (Warner Bros./Warner Music Nashville) lifted 46-11 on the BB200 ( 8-5 Country), selling 20,533 copies (up 135%).

In his second chart frame Sam Hunt with MONTEVALLO rounds out the top 10 on the Billboard 200, sliding 3-10 with 25,395   sales (down 64%) and as the No.1 Country album last week fell back to No.4.

Darius Rucker with his yuletide album HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS moved 43-39 on the BB200 (7-11 Country) with sales of  9,917 copies (up 12%) in his second chart frame (18,843 total)

Six other albums which landed on the Top 25 Country albums last week with their debut’s all fell of the chart.
The Lacs with NOTHING IN PARTICULAR (BackRoad| Average Joes) moved 20-27
Rodney Carrington’s LAUGHTER'S GOOD fell 23-33
Home Free with holiday set FULL OF CHEER (Columbia) fell 14-36
Wade Bowen SELF TITLED set plummeted 9-42
Stoney LaRue with the excellent AVIATOR (eOne) retreated 17-47

SOUTHBOUND (Arista Nashville/SMN), a set of countrified collaborations by The Doobie Brothers (with Michael McDonald) , started at No.16 on the BB200 (#7 Country) selling 16,350 copies.
They along with several country stars played live on the CMA Awards show with two performances in the final hour.
In March 2014, the Doobie Brothers, in conjunction with Sony Music Nashville, announced that a brand new album would be released featuring the Greatest hits of their 40+ year career. The album was released on Nov 4, 2014 as their fourteenth studio album.

Critical reception for Doobie Brothers’ “Southbound”:
13 Tracks/ Time: 49:02 CD - MP3 - UK iTunes >> Watch the EPK

Allmusic (Rating: 3 STARS) A throwback to the golden age of star-studded tributes, the Doobie Brothers' 2014 Southbound essentially follows the same playbook as the Beach Boys' 1996 album Stars and Stripes, Vol. 1: team up a classic rock band with a bunch of contemporary country stars to sing the hits everybody knows and loves. ....Southbound feels smooth and natural, possibly because nobody involved dared to mess much with the original arrangements, a move that underscores how this is very much a record where singers are sitting in with the Doobies and not the other way around. Whenever there's a flash of modernization, it is minimal, as on the light decorative rhythmic loops and mandolin samples on "Listen to the Music," where Blake Shelton takes co-lead with Tom Johnston as Hunter Hayes lays down some beefy guitar. Johnston and Patrick Simmons dominate Southbound because their songs lend themselves better to country singers; they're either driving rockers or backwoods-inflected boogie, settings that are comfortable for neo-jam bands (Zac Brown Band, "Black Water"), swaggering cowboys (Toby Keith, "Long Train Runnin'" and Chris Young, "China Grove"), modern-day strummers (Jerrod Niemann, "South City Midnight Lady"), and arena country heroes (Brad Paisley, "Rockin' Down the Highway"). That said, the three Michael McDonald tunes -- "What a Fool Believes" (Sara Evans), "Takin' It to the Streets" (Love and Theft), "You Belong to Me" (Amanda Sudano Ramirez, featuring Vince Gill on guitar) -- all feel at home because this is a Doobie Brothers album, after all, and they've long ago found a way to reconcile the two sides of their musical personality. If there isn't much reinvention to be found on Southbound, that's fine: the record was meant as an open-hearted celebration of the Doobies' biggest hits and that's precisely what it delivers.

Country Weekly: (Rating B+) ....The new album has a little something for just about everyone—longtime Doobie fans will be excited that Southbound is the first time frontmen Patrick, Tom and Michael have appeared on the same album since 1976’s Takin’ It to the Streets, while country music fans get a chance to hear some of their favorite artists sing a Doobie catalog that reads like a Rolodex of jukebox hits.

Four The Country Record: .....In case it wasn’t expressed clearly, I do like ‘Southbound’ quite a lot. It does what a duet re-release of classic songs should do, and re-interprets the music according to the new collaborations. However, I do think that some of the instrumental intimacy of the original versions are drowned in loud, homologous, guitar-heavy instrumentation, which makes the album a bit of an assault on the ears after a few songs. For listeners being introduced to Doobie Brothers for the first time, it does make their music much more accessible to a younger generation, with the overly-produced songs being quite friendly to the modern ear.

The cast of ABC-TV's "NASHVILLE" with their holiday album release, CHRISTMAS With NASHVILLE out digitally and physically in America on Tuesday Nov 4, 2014 was the only other
album to debut on the the top 25 Country albums. With sales perhaps less than expected it arrived at No.105 on the BB200 (#23 Country) selling 3,795 copies in its first week at retail.

The CD version was available in the U.S. exclusively at Target.
This title will be released in the UK by Decca Records on November 24, 2014. Pre-order the CD on Amazon UK
The album consists of holiday standards and originals performed by more than a dozen "NASHVILLE" cast members.  The compilation is produced by Rascal Flatts' Jay Demarcus who guest-starred on the series last season. That guest role led to a co-writing partnership with series star Sam Palladio and the eventual decision to have Demarcus produce "CHRISTMAS With NASHVILLE." The 12-track album includes Hayden Panettiere's  take on "White Christmas," Charles Esten's rendition of "Blue CHRISTMAS," and a special duet by Connie Britton and Will Chase on "Baby, It's Cold Outside." The show, currently in its third season, debuted in 2012.

Outside the Top 25 Country Albums

A new John Denver Collection titled ALL OF MY MEMORIES: The - John Denver (RCA/  Legacy) made a debut at #44.

Teen duo Maddie & Tae with their Self-Titled debut 4 track EP which features their Top 10 cheeky answer song to the "Bro Country" trend, "Girl In A Country Song" arrived at No.164  on the BB200 (#28 Country) selling 2,775 digital albums.
They got to perform “Girl In A Country Song,” on The David Letterman Show Friday, September 12th and made their  Grand Ole Opry debut Tuesday (Sept 23) performing their hit single. The night doubled as a celebration of the 25th anniversary of Country Cares for St. Jude.

Saving Country Music (Rating: 1 3/4 of 2 Guns Up) Amazon.com
Maddie & Tae’s “Girl In A Country Song” has made for grand country music theater in 2014, marking one of the most talked about musical offerings since Kacey Musgraves’ “Merry Go ‘Round.” The song takes a swipe at the same sort of Bro-Country that has completely permeated country music’s airwaves, while still remaining playful enough where egos can’t be bruised (mostly) or turf wars can’t break out between the country music sexes.....Make no
mistake, the emergence of Maddie & Tae is the result of tactical gaming of country music’s notoriously malleable masses by label types, but that doesn’t mean that the music can’t be any good.....Granted, we only have four songs to draw from. But from what I’m hearing, the Maddie & Tae EP might just be the best offering of mainstream country so far in 2014,...The other song floating out there in acoustic form before the release of this EP was “Sierra.” Already a witty and smart tune in its raw form, when fleshed out in the studio, we really see the potential of the Maddie & Tae project come to life....“Fly”— the sentimental offering in the group that revitalizes the inspiring style of female country indicative of the early careers of Lee Ann Womack and Martina McBride. It may be a little too adult contemporary for some, but “Fly” is a solid offering that illustrates a deeper side to these girls’ otherwise silly and smart approach....Like every good EP should set out to accomplish, this collection of songs introduces you to what Maddie & Tae are all about without exposing too much, and wets your whistle for what else might be in store.... this EP offers a fun experience, and good insight into what this much debated and ballyhooed duo have in store. Color me impressed.

Four The Country Record: ....The EP finishes with the Miranda Lambert-esque “Your Side of Town,” a country-rocker that continues in the vein of done-me-wrong girl power anthems like “Kerosene”. This one is probably the duo’s safest choice for a follow-up second single, but safe isn’t necessarily a bad thing here. “Your Side of Town” is a lot of fun to listen to, and the melodic hooks will be stuck in your head for hours....I can’t help but wish Maddie & Tae had included some of the stronger songs they’ve showcased live already, such as “After the Storm Blows Through” or “Smoke,” but hopefully those will be on their full-length record. This EP’s biggest downfall, but perhaps intentionally so, is how short it is. It most certainly leaves you wanting more.
