LAS VEGAS, NV (April 7, 2013)
Country Girl Shake It For Me - Sometimes working (and shaking) your butt off will get you where you want to be! Show co-host Luke Bryan found that out at the 48th Academy of Country Music Awards when In in a perhaps surprise upset, he won the night's biggest honour beating out stars like Miranda Lambert, Blake Shelton and Taylor Swift.. In a star-studded ceremony fans named Luke Bryan, Entertainer of the Year, the evening’s biggest honor and his first win in that category. This year marked a record breaking year with 1.1 million fans casting their vote for Entertainer of the Year and New Artist of the Year categories, combined.
The Awards were seen by an estimated 15.5 million people, according to Nielsen. It is believed to be the first time the ACM awards outdrew the more established Country Music Association awards, which took place in November. The CMA awards had 13.7 million viewers in November.
But ABC points out that it was televised only a few days after Superstorm Sandy struck the East Coast and left millions of people without power; the same awards show had 16.4 million people the year before.

Luke & Blake Shelton, the two co-hosts were amiable from the outset and traded some good-natured barbs. "Shout out to the Sherwin-Wiliams company for spray painting Luke's jeans on tonight!" jabbed Blake. "Blake's jeans are like buying something on credit: nothing up front," shot back Luke.

The performance-promotional-heavy show actually ran nearly 45 minutes without ever naming a ACM winner, and the festivities were kicked off with an all-star performance between co-hosts Blake and Luke (or "Bluke" as the Twittersphere deemed them) on Blake's "Boys 'Round Here," who were joined by Sheryl Crow, the Pistol Annies, and Brad Paisley on guitar.

The industry audience erupted into cheers after Shania Twain — in her first ACMs appearance in a decade — announced the award. The 2013 Entertainer Bryan appeared stunned at his own win, visibly moved to tears. >> YouTube
“This is — uh, I don’t know what to say,” Bryan said. “Fans, thank you so much for making my life what it is. What I always wanted to be was a country singer that got to ride on a tour bus and show up at a new stage and play music every night.”
"I swear to God, every time I step on stage, it is a blessing for me to play for fans," said a clearly surprised and tearful Luke. "This is the defining moment of my life and it means the world to me and I will never take it for granted."
Luke's co-host Blake Shelton—who was also nominated—congratulated him as the show wrapped up. "You won Entertainer of the Year in your first and last year of co-hosting the ACM Awards!" he joked.
Prior to the telecast, Bryan won for Vocal Event of the Year with Jason Aldean and Eric Church, for “The Only Way I Know,” a trophy he accepted on the GAC live red carpet pre-show. The Entertainer of the Year Award and Vocal Event of the Year mark his fourth ACM Award wins. Luke previously won in 2009 for both New Solo Vocalist of the Year and for New Artist of the Year.

ACM Awards 2013 Winners

Jason Aldean
Jason Aldean won the 2013 ACM Award for Male Vocalist of the Year up against stiff competition from the like’s of Eric Church and Blake Shelton. It was his first win in the category.  Aldean also won for Vocal Event of the Year, with Luke Bryan and Eric Church, for “The Only Way I Know.”  This is his second consecutive win in that category; he won last year with Kelly Clarkson for “Don’t You Wanna Stay.”  In 2005, he won for New Male Vocalist of the Year.
When the ’1994′ singer took the stage to accept his trophy, he seemed genuinely shocked and surprised to have beaten peers that he loves and respects.
This is really surprising,” Aldean said once he took his spot at the podium. “I am friends with and fans of everyone in this category.”
A&E’s Duck Dynasty stars Willie & Korie Robertson presented him with award.
In related news: Kix Brooks hosted a ACM Party for a Cause Festival Saturday (4/6) where the Ducky Dynasty cast helped ACM execs present checks for $10,000 to Nellis Air Force Base Force Support Squadron, $25,000 to Wounded Warrior Project and $25,000 to Folds of Honor.

Miranda Lambert
Keith Urban presented the Female Vocalist of the Year award to Miranda Lambert at the 2013 ACMs, and she was completely surprised by the win. “I thought for sure Carrie had it this year, and she damn well deserves it!” she said as she took the stage… and broke into tears >> YouTube
Miranda was up against top-notch acts including Martina McBride, Kacey Musgraves, Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood.
It was her fourth consecutive year win as Female Vocalist of the Year and she was the leading winner of the night, with a total of four trophies in three categories she also took the prize for Single Record of the Year as artist, and Song of the Year. She joins Reba McEntire and Loretta Lynn as the only other artists to win Female Vocalist of the Year four or more times.

Thompson Square
Husband and wife country duo Thompson Square won the first major award of the night taking home the honors for Vocal Duo of the Year. It was their second consecutive ACM Award win in that category. They might well feel some heat next year from hot new duo Florida Georgia Line.

The country-pop duo consisting of Keifer and Shawna Thompson have scored hits including ‘Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not’ (which has topped the 2 million mark in digital sales this week) and ‘Glass.’ They were elated to receive the award — especially in a category that also included Big & Rich, Florida Georgia Line, Love and Theft and Sugarland.
We want to thank God for this amazing reality that we live in right now,” Keifer said, also thanking country radio and the fans for their support.
NFL player Colin Kaepernick  and actress Michelle Stafford presented them with award, see the backstage press ACM footage >> YouTube

Little Big Town
Little Big Town took home the 2013 ACM Award for Vocal Group of the Year. There is “never a tour bus when you want one and them three come along at once” is how they must be feeling with success coming after many years of hard work and they will not want the Pontoon bubble to burst. It’s been a breakout past 12 months for the troupe, thanks to their smash 2012 summer hit ‘Pontoon’ and follow-up single “Tornado” also winning 2 awards at the CMA’s in November 2012.
They were able to once more beat out names like Lady Antebellum and the Band Perry on the ACM nominees ballot.
Jake Owen & The Big Bang Theory’s Kaley Cuoco presented them with the award.
Prior to the telecast Little Big Town were also awarded the trophy for Video of the Year for “Tornado.” This is their first win in both categories.  In 2006, they won for New Vocal Duo or Group of the Year.

Florida Georgia Line
Country duo Florida Georgia Line won New Artist of the Year which may have helped keep peace in the also nominated Brantley Gilbert/Jana Kramer household.
Scotty McCreery presented the award, which he won previously. The duo took the stage in a hurry, as producers were evidently urging them to make up for some lost time in the schedule.
The New Artist of the Year was presented by Kohl’s Department Stores, a fan-voted category.  Florida Georgia Line previously won in the New Vocal Duo or Group of the Year category which gives them a total of two wins for this year. After a truly huge breakout year FGL's Tyler Hubbard said - "This time last year, we were watching this"

Eric Church
Eric Church took another step away from being a Nashville outsider to being the new mainstream of Music City by winning Album of the Year for his album CHIEF, beating such huge acts as Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift, Luke Bryan and Little Big Town.
Legendary rocker John Fogerty and Miranda Lambert presented the award. “I can’t believe I just met John Fogerty,” Church said when he took the stage, adding, “We should hang out later.”
Thanking his business team - “They all believe in the passion of the music, and that’s what this is all about,” he said.  He also won for Vocal Event of the Year, with Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan, for “The Only Way I Know.” This is his first win in both categories, and his third ACM Award overall. He won for New Solo Vocalist of the Year in 2010.
The eligibility period for the Album award was Dec. 1, 2011, to Nov. 28, 2012. So for the first round Taylor Swift’s latest album, RED fell within those dates. Church completed a double as he also won Album of the Year for CHIEF at the 2012 CMA’s.

ACM 2013 Song Of The Year
Miranda Lambert won Song of the Year at the 2013 ACM Awards, sharing the honor with her husband Blake Shelton, who co-wrote ‘Over You,’ the winning song. “This is awesome!” she crowed. “Last time this happened, you didn’t get to talk,” Shelton said, adding with a laugh that his wife wouldn’t get to talk now, either. “I’ve learned so much from this human being standing next to me,” he told the audience.

ACM 2013 Single Of The Year
It was a two-fer for Miranda Lambert, after accepting the win for Song of the Year for her emotional ballad ‘Over You’ (co-written with husband Blake Shelton), she won the trophy for Single Record of the Year for the same song.
She beat out  competition from Eli Young Band, Little Big Town, Eric Church and Hunter Hayes.
This was further validation for her skills as a songwriter as country music is all about the ability to effectively tell a story via strong songwriting. In her heartfelt acceptance speech she said: “Having your songs and your lyrics be recognized by your peers is pretty much as good as it gets. I am so thankful for being in this genre of country music.”
She choked back tears as she gushed with pride over her membership in the country community - “Thank you for accepting me as a songwriter, and not just as a singer and performer.”

Blake Shelton and Friends – “Boys ‘Round Here”  >> YouTube
Blake Shelton opened the 2013 ACM Awards with his new current single “Boys ‘Round Here”.
This guest-fest was a true collaboration, with everyone on stage actually contributing to the performance. Shelton started things off and was joined by his co-host Luke Bryan. Sheryl Crow then came out, followed by the Sexy-Sin-City-looking trio Pistol Annies. Brad Paisley lent a signature guitar solo from the audience before winding up on stage jamming at the end of the song.

Kenny Chesney – “Pirate Flag   >>  YouTube
Kenny Chesney hit the stage to perform his latest hit, ‘Pirate Flag.’ The audience waved their black and white ‘No Shoes Nation’ flags proudly as the singer did his thing. Some lucky fans formed a ‘No Shoes Nation’ pocket around the front of the stage riser while they watched. Chesney revved up the crowd, which was recovering from the star-studded opening performance from Blake Shelton and friends. The fans, the ACM crowd and Kenny’s peers and fellow country stars held and waved their flags high getting an early feel of some summer fun.

Brad Paisley, Dierks Bentley, Hunter Hayes
“Outstanding in Our Field  >> YouTube
Looking suave and cool in black Brad Paisley, Dierks Bentley and the young Hunter Hayes showcased the ‘Wheelhouse’ star’s new song. Turning up the Vegas heat Paisley donned tight leather pants and his trademark cowboy hat with Dierks sporting a flashy leather jacket. Paisley, a 14-time ACMs winner, kicked things off then Bentley took over on a verse and Hunter Hayes showed off electric guitar prowess.

George Strait – “Give It All We Got Tonight  >> YouTube
Strait with some audio difficulties performed his current single ‘Give It All We Got Tonight’ with the King of Country superstar currently on his farewell tour. Eli Young Band took the stage to introduce the long-time singer, who is engaged in the 60 for 60 campaign in a bid to chart a 60th No. 1 hit single of his career before he turns 61 on May 18. Later in the show, Strait teamed up with Garth Brooks to honour the late Dick Clark.

Eric Church – “Like Jesus Does   >> YouTube
He ditched his signature baseball cap and ever-present aviator sunglasses to perform his current country airplay single with the ballad ‘Like Jesus Does’. Church sat on a stool by himself in the middle of the stage for his set, which was projected in black and white except for a slight tint of his guitar and guest vocalist Valerie June dressed in bright, beautiful red dress, who offered a soulful harmony. This contrast further rendered the performance. Intimate, unique and different.

Lady Antebellum – “Downtown” >> YouTube
The 2012 ACM Vocal Group of the Year and 2013 nominees performed their funky new radio hit, ‘Downtown’ with fans entering into the dance party spirit. A pregnant, Hilary Scott took the lead and midway through the song, Charles Kelley threw his tamborine into the crowd, giving one lucky fan a memorable souvenir. Was it a ‘Golden‘ performance?
A happy Charles thought so rubbing the Lady A’s baby bump as they received their ACM applause.

Blake Shelton -  Sure Be Cool If You Did
The 2012 ACM & CMA Male Vocalist and 2013 ACM co-host brought things down to emotional level, with his No.1 hit song ‘Sure Be Cool if You Did.’ From his Billboard Country No.1 record ‘Based on a True Story,’ the song is his 8th consecutive No. 1 hit and 13th overall. Shelton was backed by two female vocalists who were also doubled up on guitars showing a tender on this acoustic rendition. As the song finished the Vegas audience went wild but not from the “Old Farts and Jackass crowd” watching at home who are planning to march in Nashville, TN. on Music Row, Wednesday, April 17, 2013. They have almost reached ¾ of their 1,000 petition goal to launch an initiative to attempt to remove Blake Shelton from the Grand Ole Opry [after Blake’s remarks on his GAC interview], and get more traditional country played on the radio.

The Band Perry – “Done
Prior to their 2013 ACM performance TBP member Neil Perry issued a bit of a memo while being interviewed on the red carpet, warning that the performance would “definitely be the most dangerous performance of the night.”
Was it country music? Well it was certainly a lot of fun with the high octane winning performances of the evening. Did the trio stuck their fingers in electrical sockets before hitting the stage?
Kimberly went wild, and even dropped to her knees during the fiddle solo. There was synchronized dancing and bouncing, with the Perrys and their band busting some serious moves in perfect time!  They lit up the ACM stage as sparks fell from the sky, and a sexy looking Kimberly looked better than ever while wearing a fashion-forward black dress and booties. Her heels were dangerously high for a girl who was jumping up and down while singing (Don’t try it at home girls)
Watch the on fire Band Perry vibe and pyro effects as the hot trio tear the roof off the place with their high-energy rendition of  "DONE!  >> YouTube

Jason Aldean – “1994” >> YouTube
Blake Shelton‘s introduced Jason Aldean by quipping, “Back in 1994, Hunter Hayes was still breastfeeding.” The audience loved the crack, and everyone was in good spirits when Aldean took the stage to sing his current radio single with his female backup dancers in attendance dressed in denim clad shorts bearing their midriffs and wearing sexy boots [Bobcats dancer Brittany Kerr didn’t appear to be one of them] .

Donning his signature black cowboy hat, the in-yer-face-country hitmaker pulled his best ripped-up jeans out of the closet for the awards. The song’s subject never appeared as many might of anticipated.
With the response to his image during ’1994,’ one wonders what might have happened if the real Joe Diffie walked on stage and what he thinks about country music (?) in 2013

Tim McGraw (Feat. Taylor Swift, Keith Urban) -
 ‘Highway Don’t Care’>> YouTube
Unlike the studio cut Mr. McGraw actually hooked up with a couple of real life high-powered friends. Blake Shelton and Luke Bryan couldn’t resist a bit about McGraw, with Shelton saying that he didn’t see the big deal about McGraw’s new buff body, since he’s always had the best body in country music — to which Bryan replied that her name was Faith Hill!

Cue the beautiful Hill who came out to introduce her husband with Big Machine stable mate Taylor Swift (The 2012 ACM Entertainer of the Year) taking the second verse before blending with Tim in harmony on the chorus. Keith Urban was on hand and killed it with a trademark guitar solo in this on stage live collab that truly worked.

Miranda Lambert – “Mama’s Broken Heart” >> YouTube
Blake Shelton introduced his wife Miranda Lambert‘s performance by saying, “Just this morning I saw her naked.” Lambert showed her alternately feminine and tough sides during the MGM Grand performance.
With fellow Pistol Annie Analeena Presley and Ashley Monroe watching and singing along from the audience Miranda rather belted out and forced the vocal singing somewhat shouting into her bedazzled and blinged out microphone, wearing a shimmery, skintight dress.  This no messin’ country gal, who can tame the beast, known as Shelton, brought the crazy out during this sassy performance.

Little Big Town – “Your Side of the Bed” >> YouTube
After wrapping up their Vocal Group award the country foursome Little Big Town took the stage with their heartbreakingly new single ‘Your Side of the Bed.’ In an emotional ballad, this was the artistic winner of the night with the stunning backdrop. Two sexy aerialists appeared from behind a sheet suspended in front of a giant bed. They appeared to be lying in the bed living out  the memories of the love they made. At the end of the performance, what looked like the “loved up” aerialists then pulled up the sheet, each ending on their side of the bed.

Kelly Clarkson – “Don’t Rush” >> YouTube
Where was Vinny? Pop superstar and budding country performer Kelly Clarkson performed ‘Don’t Rush’, her debut country single, delivering a strong rendition despite the absence of her collaborator Vince Gill.
Trisha Yearwood came out to introduce Clarkson saying she was “the real deal” . This soulful country track fits first season ‘American Idol’ winner Kelly’s understated, sexy-but-not-blatant vocal which was enjoyed by Miranda Lambert and Sheryl Crow in the front row crowd.

Carrie Underwood – “Two Black Cadillacs” >> YouTube
Fresh off debuting her pop sounding new country single ‘See You Again‘ on her former stomping grounds of ‘American Idol’ she opted to perform her most recent Mediabase No. 1 radio hit ‘Two Black Cadillacs’ flanked by two actual Caddies in a foggy graveyard setting. The dramatic full-on production, had lots of smoke and a dark, ominous sky drifted behind her. Wearing a black lacy number and red lippie, the 30-year old Carrie, feeling the pain, squeezed every drop out of her powerful performance.

Luke Bryan – “Crash My Party” >> YouTube
First-time ACMs host Luke Bryan put the gig cracking jokes on ice as he showcased a new single ‘Crash My Party’ first sat tickling the ivories before raising in black t-shirt and jeans to crash his own ACM Entertainer party. Somewhat void of production or props his vocal performance required no excess bells and whistles. Bryan mentioned in his Billboard cover story that he loves what he does, and that definitely showed on his face in this ACMs performance.

Jewel - ACM Lifting Lives Medley "Hands" >> YouTube
In a sweet and emotional performance for the ACM Lifting Lives Moment a smiling Jewel took a stand against child hunger with a medley of her hit ‘Hands’ and a new original song entitled ‘Fill a Heart’ written by singer/songwriter Tori Kelly.
Wearing a beautiful pale pink strapless dress, Jewel looked terrific, strumming her acoustic guitar. The singer apparently actually wrote ‘Hands’ while she was homeless and hungry, making her performance extra meaningful, as it highlighted ConAgra Foods’ Child Hunger Ends Here campaign. “We can change the outcome if we reach out and take a hand,” Jewel sang, and she invited the audience to join her on the lyrics, “in the end, only kindness matters.”

George Strait with Garth Brooks
Dick Clark Tribute” >> YouTube
Mega superstars in a heavyweight matchup, Garth Brooks and George Strait gave a once-in-a-lifetime performance singing together for the first time ever in tribute to Dick Clark. Reba McEntire introduced the pair, recalling Clark as someone who helped shape her career over the years. “He would slap me if he saw me crying out here right now,” she said.
Brooks came out and delivered an understated version of ‘The Dance’ before introducing “King” Strait, who sang his hit ‘The Cowboy Rides Away’ with Brooks joining in on harmony vocals.
Both men are past recipients of the ACM Artist of the Decade award, which has been re-named the ACM Dick Clark Artist of the Decade award in memory of the departed music business legend. This was the big ACM 2013 country music moment.

Hunter Hayes – “Want Crazy” >> YouTube
Hayes debuted his new song ‘I Want Crazy’ with the words ‘Let’s Be crazy’ scribbled across the pick guard of the guitar on which Hayes was knuckling down. He was surrounded by huge balloons with his name and the lyrics printed on them, a few of which he booted into the crowd and Miss Taylor Swift was one recipient holding it aloft. The song, in somewhat Keith Urban-esque guitar riff fashion, ended with confetti falling but no wedding as young Mr.Hayes welcomed R&B icon Stevie Wonder to the ACM stage to perform Wonder’s ‘Sir Duke’ alongside one another.

Brad Paisley (Feat. John Mayer) – “Beat This Summer  >> YouTube
Brad Paisley took the stage for the 3rd annual Fan Jam alongside pop icon John Mayer. They performed ‘Beat This Summer‘ from Paisley’s album ‘Wheelhouse,’ due out April 9. They have performed together years ago on CMT Crossroads.
Beach scenes, waves and other thoughts of warm weather flashed up on back screen projections. Paisley’s vocals were not that audible and a bit below par.

Stevie Wonder + Blake Shelton, Luke Bryan ACM Finale >> YouTube
Stevie Wonder closed out the ACM Awards with his classic soul hit ‘Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours’ Wonder was joined by Hunter Hayes once again this time on the drums as Blake Shelton jumped in on vocals and Luke Bryan danced onstage as the country stars sang along in the audience.

48th ACM Awards 2013 Red Carpet Interviews

By Billboard.com’s Chuck Dauphin: ACM Awards 2013: 10 Best Moments

48th ACM Awards 2013 Gossip
Clay Walker was with his lovely wife Jessica on the ACM red carpet and she was noticeably pregnant (7 months), glowing and beaming as the couple posed (photo). According to Celebrity Baby Scoop, the ‘She Won’t Be Lonely Long’ singer and his second wife are expecting their child this summer. They have made no formal announcement, revealing the pregnancy by simply showing up, with bump. The couple already have a 4-year-old son, William, and a 3-year-old daughter named Mary.
Annies Up to some naked spray-tan fun:
You might say Blake Shelton had plenty to sing about when he found himself in the presense of four naked ladies: Sheryl Crow, the Pistol Annies's Ashley Monroe, Angaleena Presley and, of course, wife Miranda Lambert.
In Sin City for Sunday's ACM Music Awards, the show's co-host had quite the opportunity to indulge his, um, sinful side.
"The first night we got to Vegas, me and Sheryl Crow and Miranda and Angeleena went to Miranda and Blake's room and had a spray-tan party, so all of us were naked," Monroe, 26, told PEOPLE -  on the pre-ceremony red carpet. "We made Blake go upstairs and close his eyes." He left," she said, adding, "but there could have been a camera! I'm still not sure. We'll see what he Tweets in the next week."

Wow! What have Trisha Yearwood and Angaleena Presley been doing right?
Both women revealed a slimmer, but still curveous figure. The Pistol Annies brunette walked on stage in leather, lace and garters, causing men to meltdown and panic seeking for “drool” on their TV remotes.

Trisha Yearwood looked similarly healthy (more modestly dressed) in a form fitting dress when she introduced Kelly Clarkson's performance. Mrs. Garth Brooks and TV host cook admits she's cut sugar from her diet and has lost 20 pounds. Presley's road to a smaller waistline remains a mystery, but isn’t kissing a way to shed the calories?

Joe Nichols spilled in a red carpet interview he has a new energy at his new home, Broken Bow Records. A new single "Sunny And 75" (possibly written by Michael Dulaney, Paul Jenkins and Jason Sellers) will impact on May 13. He said it had a driven tempo with a Gimme-Me-That-Girl vibe and was “the best vocal stuff” he has done on a forthcoming album.

Joey + Rory have just wrapped-up work on an “inspirational” set of gospel standards and new “faith-based” songs. “It’s kind of an inspirational album, of old gospel songs that I grew up singing and listening to my mum sing,” Joey Martin told Billboard’s Chuck Dauphin on the ACM red carpet. “It’s an album I’ve wanted to do for a long time,” she adds. With a fourth in the can, the country duo have partnered in a “neat marriage” with Gaither Music for its release. The new album is due to drop in July.
Joey & Rory were in Vegas to showcase a new song "Enough" for the Kraft Food, Walmart, for their "Fighting Hunger Together Campaign" Programme  >> YouTube

About Academy of Country Music Mission - In 1964, performers Eddie Miller and Tommy Wiggins teamed up with club owners Mickey and Chris Christensen to establish the Country and Western Music Academy. Their vision was to promote country music in the western 13 states with the support of artists based on the West Coast such as Johnny Bond, Glen Campbell, Merle Haggard, Roger Miller, Buck Owens, Wynn Stewart, Jimmy Wakely and Tex Williams. In 1965, a board of directors was formed to govern the Academy and Dick Shofield became the organization's first chairman.

The Academy hosted its first country music awards show in 1966 honoring the industry's accomplishments during the previous year. It was the first country music awards program held by a major organization, propelling country music into the public spotlight for the first time. Winners that year included Kay Adams, Merle Haggard, Bonnie Owens and Buck Owens.

The Academy's signature "hat" trophy was created in 1968, the same year Fran Boyd was hired as the Academy's first paid employee. During the early 1970s, the organization changed its name to the Academy of Country and Western Music and finally to the Academy of Country Music (ACM) to avoid confusion about whether the organization was a music school. The Academy also expanded its efforts to broaden the horizons of the country music industry, sponsoring the "Country Music Caravan" in Los Angeles and beginning its history of charitable endeavors with a "Concern for Prisoners of War" benefit concert (also held in Los Angeles).
The awards show hit the airwaves in 1972, broadcast for the first time in national syndication on the ABC network.. Fans had the ability to vote online for the ACM Video of the Year and in 2008 they were also invited to vote for the Academy's coveted Entertainer of the Year award (after the professional membership had selected the nominees in that category).
